A hilsa weighing about 1.5 kg and a pangash weighing 13 kg caught from the Padma River in Daulatdia, Rajbari were sold for more than 8,000 taka and 1 pangash weighing 13 kg were sold for more than 18,000 taka. This Tuesday morning, Nurul Islam Sheikh and Shahjahan Sheikh, traders from the Ferighat area, bought the two fish and sold them elsewhere. Earlier, on Monday, a pangash weighing about 27 kg was sold for 51,000 taka.

Local fishermen and traders said that due to the increase in water in the Padma River, large rui, katla, pangash and hilsa are often caught in fishermen’s nets. This morning, fishermen cast their nets at the estuary of the Padma River in the Char Karneshna area bordering Rajbari and caught a large hilsa. In addition, another pangash fish was caught in their net. They came to the Daulatdia Ferighat market in Goalanda upazila to sell the fish. At that time, when it was put up for auction at Anukha’s shop, local businessman Shahjahan Sheikh and his brother Nurul Islam Sheikh bought the two fish as the highest bidders.
Shahjahan Sheikh said that the weight of the hilsa was about 1 kg 800 grams. Later, his brother Nurul Islam Sheikh bought the fish as the highest bidder at a price of 4,500 taka per kg for a total of 8,100 taka. At the same time, another pangash weighing about 13 kg was bought from the shop. He himself bought the pangash at a price of 1,300 taka per kg for a total of 16,900 taka. Shahjahan Sheikh said that after bringing the two fish to his shop at the ferry pier, he contacted various people. He sold the hilsa to an Italian expatriate in Pabna’s Rooppur area at a price of 4,650 taka per kg for a total of 8,370 taka. The pangash was sold at a price of 1,400 taka per kg for a total of 18,200 taka.
Earlier, a pangash weighing about 27 kg was caught yesterday morning, which was sold for a total of 48,600 taka at a price of 1,800 taka. Shahjahan Sheikh claimed that the fish was the largest pangash found in the Padma this season.
